Graeme 'Chuck' Acott hails from sunny Hornchurch (Essex boy) originally but can now be found lurking in rural Bedfordshire. Part time bike racer, former British Moped Racing Champion, hiker and paraglider, Micra fan - definitely the adventurer of the team. Graeme spends most of his time thinking of ways to either hurl himself off things attached to cloth with bits of string and not a propeller in site or how to eke another 0.25 hp from his collection of mopeds and bikes. No stranger to hardship he has taken part in the ACU National rally over the past few years armed only with a Honda C90 and any passing fool willing enough to ride pillion and complete 500 miles in 18 hours to raise money for Mencap. After spending 2 months hiking and gliding his way round New Zealand in 2005 he decided that a new challenge was the order of the day so he formulated a cunning plan to enter the Mongol Rally, all he really needed was someone dimwitted enough to join him..... |
What would you use to travel 10,000 miles in just over three weeks? Most likely an aeroplane, unfortunately that's not allowed so we've got this the mighty Beige – a 1985 1.0l Nissan Micra. Costing the princely sum of £241.50 from the source of all things (ebay) this will be our home for the trip, we almost feel sorry for it. We'll be carrying out a few modifications to give her a fighting chance of getting us to Ulaanbattar, after which she'll be handed over to a local charity (or whatever's left will be)to begin a new life in Mongolia. |
Shaun Mallone lives in Northampton and can usually be spotted ploughing a furrow between his house and garage in an attempt to maintain an increasingly large, and some would say erratic, fleet of bikes and cars. Keen to reduce his carbon footprint he achieves this by the simple method of never fixing anything whilst something else is still going, a policy endorsed wholeheartedly by his wife (this bit may not actually be true). Shaun would normally spend his summer holidays travelling round Europe on his bike with previous trips to Moscow and Nordkapp, however he is somewhat hindered by absolutely no natural sense of direction, which makes him an ideal candidate for this adventure. A car mechanic in a previous life means Shaun has an unparalleled ability to hit things incredibly hard with hammers, rocks, bits of wood or anything else generally to hand - a key factor in his selection. . |

![]() We have pleasure in announcing the newest member of the mongogolia crew, he's been one of the backroom staff right from the off but due to his shy and retiring nature its only now that he can be revealed. Operating from a secret lair inside a hollowed out volcano in Yorkshire design engineer and web guru Ted will be looking after the website while we're en-route (probably not once he's read this though). If however you'd like to see the real Ted in action why not pop along to the links page and check out what he's up to later this year.
